Everything ABC's Blog Hop - D

Welcome to the Everything ABC's Blog Hop!

For this hop we are featuring the letter D.
This may be the name of a paper, a stamp set, an embellishment or a style. Whatever the crafter has chosen as their element will be featured in their post.

If you came from the talented Stephanie at Quilted Scrapper then you're on the right track!

It has been so snowy and cold here in Ottawa (-26C/ -17F), that for the letter D, all I could think of was Deep Freeze, De-ice my driveway and De-fog my car windshield.  To clear my head I thought - sing a happy song. And Dashing through the Snow came to mind.  Folks,  I am so Done Done Done with winter...

So here is a card to remind me of the sunny springtime to come. .
Yellow daffodil card with CTMH A Little Note A1171
Delightful Dainty Daffodils
The stamp set I used is from the Seasonal Expressions catalogue and is available only until March 31st. It's called A Little Note (A1171).

I stamped the daffodils on Daisy White cardstock and coloured the dark yellow shades of the petals with Shinhan's Golden Yellow marker (Z2452) and for the pale yellow, I dipped the CTMH blending pen (3174 ) into Canary ink (Z2643) and used it like a paintbrush to flick a few strokes of soft yellow. It's really easy to do and gives a more realistic effect. I stuck bitty sparkles (Z1263) in the center of some of the daffodils so the light would catch them, kinda like a sparkly diamond.

The stems were coloured in Shinhan's Leaf Green marker (Z2454). To add depth to the stems, I went over the bottoms of them in a darker green in Sap (Z2463).

I matted the image and the sentiment with Kraft cardstock (Z1375) for an earthy feel. I trimmed the sentiment into fishtails and added bitty sparkle on either side of the sentiment  and popped it up on 3-D foam tape (Z1151).

I used CTMH card base available in a value pack (X254) and stuck everything to a piece of Canary cardstock that I ran through the Quatrefoil embossing folder (Z1926). I distressed all the edges with chocolate distressing ink (Z1296), channeling springtime mud.

Here in Ottawa springtime, daffodils are the second flower to come up out of the ground after the crocus. So to give the illusion of snow  I stuck white shimmer trim (Z3024) at the bottom of the daffodil stems to make it look like the daffodils were peeking through. Snow is never a straight line, so I trimmed bits of the shimmer trim for a more realistic look.

TIP:  Use the non-stick scissors (Z1836) for cutting anything sticky. They are sharp and sticks and gunks up the blade.

    1. thanks - I actually flipped through my garden and seed catalogues to see colours. That image is one those stamps that looks even better coloured in.

  4. Impressive card. I appreciate the clear, detailed instructions. I love the embossing and inking and the clever use of the shimmer tape to create the snow effect. I also need to start using the Shinhan markers. Sorry, you've had such a rough winter. I'm in the Pacific NW and we basically haven't had any snow - a light dusting the end of Nov. Mt Baker recreational snow season has been so badly effected they are offering discounted ski tickets. Though, I also look forward to the tulips and daffodils.

  6. Beautiful card!! Love how you made the snow out of the white shimmer trim! Here in Montana we had a lot of snow and now we are getting teased with beautiful Spring-like weather, it was in the mid 60s today and I was out in my front yard and noticed my tulips are already trying to bloom. I fear because it happens every year that winter is NOT over and we will get more snow, blah! It better not kill my flowers! So to agree with you, I am done with winter also!

    1. Thanks Pam. turning the shimmer trim into snow is easy with those scissors, just snip here and there and rol back the edges. Really catches the light when you pull the card out of the envelope.

I figure we have another 8 weeks before we see any tulips or daffodils... Cut your tulips and bring them in the house if you get more snow.May as well enjoy them - before the squirrels get to them !
